Who is around
Hi all, good work. I have a bit of man flu so I have been keeping a low profile. My work does not have much I can offer in terms of helping the group. Also my share dealing "needs improvement" so I wont be jumping in with buy, buy, buy or sell, sell, sell. :-( But I am positive and do have most evenings free if I can help out with anything else. :-)
You will see 0.72 before Christmas again. I like the way ACP held 0.25 all last week had a top up order at 0.21 all week but good volume and some large buys has sustained the price. longer it trades above 0.20 the more consolidated it will be. Seems most of us are tied up with the family dipping in and out all weekend. Panda Google hangout has a max of 10 in a vid chat at a time i believe may have to be a instant message meeting if we have more than that. Good call though as easy to set up and free by the look of it. Tried to find a simple communication platform like LSE today but must be unique LSE works due to its simplicity.
Somewhat ironic you posting regarding ACP. If i had stuck to my own trading plan with ECR and sold half of my holding @.72 I would have used the profit to buy into ACP as it looks good in the short term, but i elected not to sell and have lost that chance but you live and learn!! Hoping DOR will come good this week and may get another chance or of course if ECR regains to the .7's which it will do but maybe not quickly enough. Should have more chance to look at the investment platforms tomorrow while I am work - Wife says im on the computer to much!! Cheers for now
Thank you. Chilling now with a glass of red. ACP tonight is a classic example why we all need somewhere else to escape to. Will never combat the negative comments but you can choose when to turn them off and rest on fundementals. You never loose money until you sell I was at one point 90% down on ECR but research, patients and lots of top ups as I made profit from other shares paid off. I have a 4m holding in ACP at a healthy profit and will be topping up tomorrow if she falls. But thats the AIM for you.
Thanks for putting in the time to research the possibilities DH - I will have a look at the web link and give my thoughts, it should not be too complicated though as you say.
That looks good to me - thanks for your efforts
That is a good point and meetings would probably need to take place either in a live private chat room or over a discussion board. Plenty of live chat communication platforms Skype etc.
I looked at Trading Investment Club platforms for most of today and I am going to give my opinion as to how this could work for us. I have searched lots of platforms and most are accountancy based for record keeping and most have research and charting facilities as well. The best one I have come accross is here and the video explains the platform and https://www.timetotrade.eu/investment_club_software.php. It has a free private online forum for members as well. It details how to set it all up and is a very informative site. The pro version is £199 per year it looks good but Topcat how does it look from an accountants point of view? Most platforms works on an average unit basis per user in relation to the amount each individual invests. I think this would work on a fixed investment of 1k each as tabled then decide on the investment and agree an initial strategy on the investment which all members would need to agree on. We could have proportion monies to any amount we wanted to. I have searched high and low for a platform where you do not need a seperate broker and that has the facility to pay funds directly into platform and you can trade from it also but I am struggling to find one. The protocol seems to be that you need to source your own club bank account and then find a broker. Although options are listed on the site. Barclays do do one but limited to 20 members. If anyone knows of one please let us know. We will need to appoint various individuals from the member base to carry out official roles within the club and would suggest thats by experience but everyone can play a role supporting to each other. Different members could work on different investments depending on experience also. I think the benefit of a website as well could be a seperate income generator at a later date for the initial investors also you never know depends on how sucessful we are. Lots of food for thought. Need a action list next to take this forward. Eyes going square now. Enough research for one day but will be around to discuss thoughts further.
Looks interesting - only caveat - share clubs are I would think are setup by people who know each other and live in the same area - we could have members all over the place - I don't live in the UK
Great! These BB's are where I have learnt the most, taking information from all who post, rampers and derampers alike. I get bored of all the personal insults that fly around on some boards as it detracts from the goal (making money!) and informative information that most present. I look forward to seeing where this gets to as it would hoepfully be a board of like minded people, with one agenda, working together.
Hi tmd agree X19 everyone who wants to join in is welcome - you don't need any expertise - just like the idea - which we are working on!
Welcome tmd. Newbies, old hands, girls or boys, they are all welcome. Just need to be a team player really. :-)
Hi all, I have been trading shares for a couple of years now and its been a very steep learning curve.... although now I play around in AIM compared to the FTSE 100, I feel like I know less now then I did two years ago! I follow these BB's every day and I picked this up from the ECR board where I have most of my eggs. This is my first ever post on any board as I find this really interesting. If im going to be honest i cant bring much to the table but i would still like to be a part of it if i can!
perfect summary mate I was looking at this myself, so great minds think alike http://www.proshareclubs.co.uk/cgi-bin/proshareclubs/startingaclub/starting.cgi
Many hands make light work and my initial thoughts was to share knowledge, research and agree with other members to invest in a small cap company with a low number of shares in issue. Then focus on the investment through a sociial platform as thought it would be interesting and a good way to identify and invest with people that all have the same goal and focus. Plus make some money of course. It for me was all about buying power plus if you are successfull followers and potential to maybe have different oppertunities avaliable but entry strickly agreed by all members. How we bring all that together will depend on how many people would like to get involved. I will say I am no expert on this method of investing but do know if you have a number of people focused on a goal its generally more exciting and you have buying power which also means Company Directors are more likely to speak to you and keep you close to the investment. Then we all started talking about it and have had to do some research as the legal aspect to irradicate the concerns and comments regarding scams. I have been doing some research this morning on starting an investment club seems a pretty simple process and their seems to be a few websites out there with information to review. I have found a couple of sites below with information on general set up. It seems we dont need a large group to start and the legalities seem simple but no expert so good you and Topcat have a better understanding than myself. Check out the links below let me know your thoughts. http://wiki.timetotrade.eu/index.php/Investment_Club_Constitution_&_Rules http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cgt/investment_clubsfaqs.htm The setting up of a private discussion platform is important this could be in the form of a forum, chat room (Yahoo Messenger), Wordpress Website. Anything where all the group could meet and agree investments and strategy. These are my thoughts.
I agree, if we have an "aim" then we can put it up on the "general" bb in "share chat". whilst a lot of people use the share chat bb's, most only use the bb's relevant to their shares holdings (if that makes sense)
I don't want to put you on the spot, but it was your idea, so what do you feel the aim of the club is? We could then discuss how to implement the ideas whilst looking for a good media platform - sorry I have no idea about this. Thanks for your input mick I can add a bit of UK tax knowledge, and been investing in AIM for a few years, and learn't some expensive lessons. Anyway at least ECR looks good! Cheers
sorry for my non attendance yesterday, family emergency. as I said earlier, im not on facebook , but will get the wife to "like" page on my behalf. I work in the automotive industry (20 years) and don't have much experience in shares (hold in ECR, REM, MARL, MTV, PLE, NCT), but I am VERY enthusiastic in this project working, and anything that needs sorting during "out of normal hours" (I cant think of anything at the moment,), im your man, cos I work nights. GLA and keep the momentum going Mick
Thank you to those who joined the 1kclub facebook page so far nice to put a face to a name. Facebook is not ideal I agree but thought best get somthing out there to keep momentum going. Its a starting point and agree we do need a more private formal platform to communicate on going foward. A wordpress blog has been suggested and any other ideas for the platform are welcome. Have a domain name to use and a hosting account so just needs the set up. The idea has attacted a few people and it would be good to take this forward. We do need to approach this professionally though as Topcat and Castaway have stated as otherwise we will have no credability and it will not happen so it may take a little more time to organise than origionally thought to put all suggestions into practice. It would be good to put a working party together and get some structure as well. I have been trawling the net to try and find a similar project for polocies, aims and goals etc but so far had no luck as its a little unique but will look again today. Arsenal I totally agree do not want some of the idiots out there as members would totally ruin the concept. To be honest thats why I limit posting on LSE as so negative at times. Nice to see you popping in appreciated. We will also need a formal structure of administrators for any website put together. The current people who have expresses interest below. Welcome - yes we need some sort of rules/agenda/aims (probably in reverse order) and as Arsenal says we need control of membership - there is a small mumber of weird people that stalk these BB's
Topcat, Welcome to the team. :-)
Ok - just liked the new FB page. I can bring Accountancy/ Human Resources/Payroll experience to the table as I work for a hotel group in the Devon. I have been trading for about 10 years initially with CFD's but latterly trading the main markets in individual stocks as i realised that my SIPP was not growing fast enough!! Thats my aim now so that I can retire and have more time to trade!! There seems to be about 20-25 people interested at the moment - which is fantastic. Think we could do with some coordination to amalgamate the interest and make this happen. The main thing then as I see it - is bringing together all the ideas into some sort of policy from which the rules of the club can be decided. As someone has already suggested the fact that other potential new members could see this as a scam needs addressing. If we can utilise any free services available then that would be brilliant such as thepanda setting up a website. We also need a medium of communication that is easily accessable to all members - I notice someone did not know how to PM on LSE, and neither do I, and I must assume that it is for premium members? which I am not. Any further input would be great so as not to lose the momentum. Cheers all
would say that it would be best for you all to make it private & have control on who joins & if you get any trouble makers, be able to ban them. Good luck with it.
I've joined the FB group, agree it might be a good idea to make it private. I'm not sure what gets automatically shared these days. I'm not massively experienced in trading (only be investing for the last 3 years) so it would be great to be able to define this idea in a paragraph or two, like a synopsis. In terms of what I can offer, my area of expertise is in media so video production, graphic design etc. Might be of use, I guess it depends how exclusive or open we want this to become. I feel as I think someone else mentioned before it could easily be dismissed as a scam or looked upon with suspicious eyes especially if someone were to go to a website promoting it as they won't know anyone behind it. i.e. us. At least what we have is already a small community of LSE BB-ers which gives a certain element of trust. It is nice though to put faces to names through the FB group.
