Jr,
Alarm bells began to ring when you mentioned credit cards, I don’t like giving out advice but that’s not the way to go.
When me and Mr.S first bought into Sirius, we took what we assessed to be the lowest percentage paid out in divis, (revised over time due to dilution) and would it hopefully give us a good yearly income as we have very poor pensions. The amount we have will do that so I am not tempted in the slightest to buy more.
We all have our own expectations and if all goes to plan we should all do very nicely out of our investments here ;)
I doubt it will even be an option in the end Fred as I did the maths to see how many shares I would want and the sp would need to fall to 6.4p for me to go down that route and proceed to buy some more so presuming we don't see the sp go that low then I doubt I will add and the credit card will stay untouched so no worries.
I know it’s tempting JR but don’t. You’re putting extra pressure on yourself for the SP to go up in the short term and it might not and then you’ll start having to pay interest and that will prob really stress you out. Plus you need money to live and enjoy yourself. You’ve built up a great holding already and if all goes as we think it will you’ll have lots of money in Sirius! Fingers crossed - I hope it works out for you bec you’ve shown such faith and kept us all going!
Thats fair enough Fred, I respect you for taking your position and building your holding and then being resolutely sticking to your decision come hell or high water much like myself and other LTH's here.
I hope the price doesn't drop down enough to tempt me into topping up again as this time it would have to be put on the credit card( and yes I know that would be foolish and take the risk to a higher level), obviously am already in deep enough here but at least if the worst was to happen then I wouldn't be in debt as well as losing life savings!
So bearing in mind the above I REALLY do not want the sp to drop below 8p again as i suspect I would be too tempted to put the next top up on credit which I acknowledge myself would be madness!
Hi JR - this time I know I won’t buy any more. I’ve reached my ‘lucky goal no of shares’ but mainly bec I recognise that to buy any more would not be sensible in terms of what’s right for the family! Would be way too heavy in SIrius and I’m not exactly ‘starting out’ like lots on here! But I’m very happy with what I’ve got and just hope Sirius hasn’t been a total mid life crisis because I could have had a sports car, loads of exotic holidays, loads of jewellery etc etc - actually all I really want to do is help my children!! Have a lovely bank holiday!
eeks!
Hi Stanley.
Been very lucky in my wife's backing. Nervous at times due to never brought shares before. Got my first £1500. Pounds worth over 4 years ago all I had spare but sitting on a 50% loss at mo and she has been wonderful about the situation.
Have a good weekend every one and fingers crossed on the bonds.
@dadean.
I think your wife probably does know the "Size of your holding". ;)
RJ
Your answer does not answer Stanley’s question !!!
No Stanley67, not so much, but i think it is because i have not fully open with the now size of my holding (with my wife -- bad me). the risk and the loss will be on me however.
I manage money for someone else and i bought them a 7% sized holding in sxx, more worried about their position than mine and what they think, but they have said they won't blame me for the loss. I've stuck with both positions, mine and theirs... will see
it sucks seeing their portfolio down on what i bought them, but thankfully not all in, so their portfolio down about 3.5%
You say that now Fred, Iv'e said that to myself many times but somehow the prices at that particular moment in time have just been too tempting (yes even when I paid 34.92! which I still thing will show 100 % increase within the next 12 months or so!)
So far Iv'e bought on 30 different occasions and on the last occasion I thought hopefully I won't have to buy for a 31st time but if the price drops to a silly level then deep down I know that I will find the money for a nice little top up, guess buying here could be seen a a kind of illness/obsession, best not to be too introspective though as if I really thought about what Iv'e done too much it could make me a bit nervous! lol
Anyway heres to at least a couple of nights semi decent sleep I'm hoping as things are looking extremely positive at this point.
Think from my posts Stanley some might have gathered buying shares in Sirius is totally on me!! But I will never buy any more now - I’ve reached my target.
I know this is on a personal theme but I think a lot of us are in a similar situation regarding Sirius. Mr.S has taken little notice although been supportive. It’s a case of ask every few months and occasionally look at the site progress.
Since the sp drop and the bond delay he has become much more aware of what’s going on, checks out all the money programmes etc and is much more uneasy than me (both neighbours really not helping)
Have any of you got similar spouse unease?
