Absolutely well said -no other Govt would have let this get to this point-we really do know now that we are working class cannon fodder.
My dad is 95 and a WWII vet- I quote him re Sirius “The German Govt would never let this destroy the local people who supported and believed in this project”

Your dad's service to this country is much appreciated. Pity there are no heroes left in this country now. He is correct, you just have to look at the number of German medium sized locally owned companies with a very large proportion of local shareholders. Gov could have easily saved this by guaranteeing the bonds to unlock the entire funding. Instead they destroyed thousands of local people and removed 10's of millions of spending power from the local economy, spending power that would have continued for generations. To protect the taxpayer??? AAL are following the timeframe set out by Sirius and don't see major risks. If they were concerned by the construction risks they could have insisted that Sirius raise and complete before they would guarantee. The sp would have been much higher and the raise 100% successful under these terms.
I guess AAL is a no no for most politicians because of AAL's coal mining interests.
After all CF seems to have jumped on board space X and done one to mars, so we won’t be getting any answers from Sirius anytime soon.
Perhaps it would be wise to email any politicians that have an interest in AAL to come up with some answers that could both benefit AAL and the 85000 PIs. After all it would be a vote winner for them also, so that everyone sees some sort of positive in this very contentious issue. Do we know of any constituents that are part of the 85000 and reside in Dominic Grieves area or any others? I do think that to be offered some sort of interest in the company would benefit all concerned and is a good way forward for all involved including the markets reputation.
There was no request by SM for Government funds to develop the mine - that would have been bad use of taxpayers money.
The Government were simply asked to provide guarantees - as a guarantor - these should have been provided because the project was so important to the UK economy over such a long period of time.
There is a fair bit about SXX on the government website.
To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what estimate he has made of the cost to Sirius Minerals PLC of the decision by his Department not to support a finance package for that company's Woodsmith Mine project.
Asked 15 October 2019
Sirius Minerals have recently made a statement to adjust their work programme and undertake a strategic review of the project. The Government will continue to monitor the progress of the work. Sirius Minerals have stated they will continue to find alternative sources of investment so that they can complete the Woodsmith Mine project.

Never mind Trump and his dodgy dealings. It’s about time BBC concentrated on home ground. I had a feeling that foreign affairs was way over reported on and behind the shadows on home turf it’s any bodies guess what shady goings on are pertaining, back in the day we only heared about an American president when he came to visit, now it’s constant from Bush, Obama and onward to Trump. I personally couldn’t give a hoot what they are upto in there own nations. That’s for them to sort out, and ours are our problems to sort out...
So they only have to declare “Shareholdings: over 15% of issued share capital”. Now there’s a huge deliberate loophole if ever I’ve seen one.
I don't think AAL makes direct political donations to parties - I tried to look that up and saw no evidence for that. However it's a very astute point, Wenglishboy, in the light of this thing that I shared here previously: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbwcUUBrCjg
Is there a quick way to investigate how many Tories, have a vested interest in AAL at all. Is there a list where they have to declare their interests in a company?
"I'm afraid you get the government that you vote for. Only one political candidate at the last election went on TV and explicitly pledged support for the Sirius project..."
Totally agree - they are more interested in kissing babies - and more qualified - than actually making meaningful decisions - we have no technocrats in Government just career politicians and the civil servants are blinded by red tape.
