That's fine but not enough for my shares
"While merger rules allow Fox until Jan. 6 to make a final offer, the company is working to sew up a deal by late this week, Wednesday at the earliest, the people said."
Not surprising CEO would like £10.75.....read this...... http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/article-1363138/Takeover-bonanza-Skys-chief-executive-Jeremy-Darroch.html
How long is a piece of string? A formal offer has to be made by 6th Jan and if there are no regulatory issues (most expect this not to be a problem!) then the estimates currently are for mid 2017. The cash offer is for £10.75 but the shares traded at £11.40 as early ago as February 2016. Some analysts think Sky is worth £13.50 (but most agree £10.75 is too cheap - see earlier posts) so we have an interesting few months ahead - either way Santa has come early this year!
My guess would be they have a contingency in place to sweeten up to £13 . Still a bargain and Murdoch will know this is the perfect regulatory time for the deal. Happy days
How long normally do takeover take to happen?
As I said in my earlier post and I reiterate I'm not an expert but I'm planning, if possible on buying more at £10 as these can only go up in my opinion to at least £10.40-£10.60.
That's a really good article. I'm hoping there may be a counter bid at a higher price still to come...
http://www.fool.co.uk/investing/2016/06/14/should-vodafone-group-plc-buy-sky-plc/
I wonder if Vodafone are in the frame for a counter bid? Any views on the Monday morning share price?
Very interesting read :- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/12/10/murdochs-cheap-sky-bid-faces-city-revolt/ 'Claire Enders, the media analyst, said the price agreed with Fox was “the bargain of a lifetime”.'
I'd taken a look but seems to be no mention of what would happen. Lots of people are asking the same question so i expect we will find out soon or later. Thanks for the responses.
Thanks Bonz1957 that's exactly the info I was after so will sell on Monday happy with my profit.
Does anyone think ITV might be next on the menu, their present price is approx £1 short of this time last year. I would imagine sky sale not less than £13.50. ITV approx £4. I hold itv.
Strange things happening. Obviously goverment. At 11 pounds. Could see 13 pounds here
Looks like this will get through fairly easily. Regulatory issues much easier than previous bid. Also quite possible we may see some upside on this. Worst case really is 10.75 and I would think early new year towards completion. The deadlines are actually quite tight for the government to refer to Ofcom etc. Am holding myself for final price and any possible upside, but some will feel more comfortable banking profit now. Be wary in my opinion of those advising of the dangers of holding out. Still 8% upside minimum from here and the possibility of an improved offer (remember we were £11 at start of year and cable has fallen 20% since then. Not sure if enough big holders out there but I could see £13 here by the end of the story. Anyway as always just my opinion but a really good result all around
It has only just been announced that they are in talks Lucia, it could be a month, six months or not at all. Until the Offer Document is published, if it does goes ahead, we won't know the timescale. One thing is for sure, it is unlikely to be any time soon, who knows how many regulatory hoops they will have to jump through before this gets the go-ahead. It's your decision, bale now with your profit and go elsewhere, or stay for months with little prospect of any upside. As ever DYOR. ATB.
Not been a good year here either. Both of us have lost our Mums, our BFF has lost her Dad, we've lost two close neighbours and I lost an Aunt and Uncle two weeks ago. My funeral suit has had far too much use recently so I'll not be sorry to see the back of 2016. From your comment it would probably be better not say who my son is working for, but looking forward to being at the Rangers v Celtic game on the 31st - it'll be interesting to see how it compares to local derbies down here!! If I'm still in one piece after the game will have to find somewhere nice to see the New Year in before we drive back to Devon on the 2nd or 3rd - depends how much single malt I drink.....hic. I don't do buses and will give up traveling the day I can no longer drive, though Mrs B has kept a London address so has the use of a free Oyster card when we visit. Will I last another 7 years to collect my state pension? Who knows, but with the change in the pension rules we've left our personal ones in a SIPP to pass on to the kids outside of IHT, so this Sky money will come in very useful. ATB.
Hi Bonz I'm fine but had to listen to Manchester city v celtic on the wireless as I don't have bt sports like you lol. NHS in crisis and at least 6 folk I know are in hospital or going into hospital so not much Christmas cheer from me this year. Would break open a big white thorntons snow man to cheer me up but the Italians have maybe changed the ingredients and I'm doing my bit by refusing to join the ranks of the obese. Oh you've got a few months to go yet for a bus pass but you wont get no state pension for years even if you have a sex change. Looking forward to you coming on here to say you are Bonz69 if all the companies you're invested in haven't been taken over by then atb
Yes that is why I am thinking of selling now rather than waiting until the takeover goes through, but I need to establish what I will lose by doing that or whether it is worth holding on, which is why I was wondering how long this process takes.
You bought last month but sell on 10 % profit ? I think you've made more than that..
Please could someone give me some idea approx when the payout will be if this goes ahead. I buy and sell only FTSE 100 shares and bought £1500 of these last month. My strategy is to sell as soon as I have a 10% profit and then buy something else. Am trying to decide whether to get rid of these on Monday well above my target price but a bit below what I would get if I hang on for the full takeover to go through. Ideally I want to sell on Monday and get into another share, but not at too much expense.
Without wishing to state the obvious Matt, you would need to check the terms of your scheme as they are all different. As you only currently have options, and no physical shares, then I would guess that they would not be subject to the offer. However, if you stay as an employee in the larger group then your options may be transferred to another scheme. Unlikely anyone will have definitive answers for you at the moment as nothing has yet been set in stone, you may have to wait for the offer document to be published to find out where you stand. ATB
Thanks. Do you think i would lose the options or would they be subject to the offer as well?
