On that I rather agree AS.
Rudey, let's agree on one thing, Cathal is a superb business man and Prof John is a top man to have onboard re COVID. All I am suggesting by way of improvement at these interviews is that he takes the British Govt approach to addressing questions; i.e have the Prof on the link to field the scientific questions rather than shoot from the hip himself which is the Donald Trump approach
i think CF was thinking along the lines of virus particals dont travel as far in humdity as they do in colder weather, maybe thats why he said we will get a 2nd wave later in the year, lots of thing seem to be taken out of context on here, lets see what next week brings, GLA.
So you have provided no evidence to back up your earlier statement that John Oxford 'is not writing Cathal's script', or that CF is talking bs.
The fact remains that at a time when we need top experts in virology within the company and a person in charge to sell the company to new clients and potential buyers, we have a company advisory board that includes pretty much the top man in the world on Coronavirus' and an enthusiastic Chairman with a reputation as a great deal maker and entrepreneur. In my opinion.
No evidence of hot weather preventing the spreads of covid presented in the paper and 2 months proven immunity in same cases I believe is mentioned but hey keep those rose tinted spectacles on
Thanks AquaeSulis01 for posting that. Very interesting, but I couldn't find any reference by John Oxford to duration of immunity with antibodies or climate impact on the virus, which were the points I believe you raised earlier as being examples of CF bs? Please correct me if I'm wrong - I did breeze through the summary.
You would hope so Rudey, but having read this co-authored piece I suggest the good Prof is not writing Cathal's script.

With Professor John Oxford on the company advisory board I'm sure Cathal's opinions on the duration of antibody effectiveness and the impact on the virus of the local seasonal climate carry some considerable weight.
AS01,
Whilst recognising the point you make that maybe he is not always on top of the “ detail” as I tried to say you must judge someone a whole and what is important is that the “ team” is balanced and likes of John Oxford are there to provide the “ detail”.
The occasion imo was not aimed at a scientific audience so you can afford imo to be a little less robust with the scientific evidence.
CF is not a detail oriented guy and few entrepreneurs are as these are usually “ Big picture” strategic guys who spot and develop opportunities the detail guys don’t get.
So yes CF more macro than micro and same with “ story telling”. To me that is a real positive in helping explain and communicate the vision and strategy in a clear manner but again some would take that attribute as being a bad one.
If you as a SH are being led up the garden path I would agree “ story telling” is not a good trait but if it is about taking SH in a journey and the yellow brick road is made of gold then I for one am happy to join him on it.
Forgive the artistic licence lol
AQU, hope your not working through the alphabet lol , Africa/Brazil, just go to your bbc tracker if you like that kind of stuff,
AquaeSulis01 you are wrong on both points. Africa has a lower death rate as the population is younger and fitter, look at the US, cases going up, deaths going down as the protect the vulnerable....
He said based on similar viruses antibodies will protect for 2 years... Of course this can't be proven 100% for at least 2 years but we can't wait that long...
So as you say he’s no expert which he’s said himself , but being surrounded by experts maybe he’s picked up little bits from them and just can’t help saying stuff, hope half of what he says works out for ORPH, ok sports time now enjoy ur afternoon .
Ivyspivey, and I totally agree with your overall assessment of CF's ability as a CEO to get things done and make a profit, hence why I invested here, I was only pointing out that embellishing the truth is unnecessary and detracts from the good story he has to tell here. Notready, you need to look at the cases per million for relevance, and as for the virus not liking hot countries, try telling that to Brazil
Morning,
Listened to I/v and again he is a good speaker.
Agree to some extent with AS01 that CF on occasion can appear less robust on the science and specifically the point about Covid 19 ABs providing immunity for 2 years.
Having Listened to many views of top virologists and immunologists in this area the consensus is that immunity is likely to be much more short lived but truth is we simply don’t know.
Personally I put that down to him being extremely optimistic as part of his personality, the fact by his own admission he is no expert in this area,is an entrepreneur rather than a scientist and a bit of the Irish trait of being a great story teller.
Want to make it totally clear I really think CF is a great CEO and very pleased to have him lead this Company forward and has an extremely successful track record.Having worked for a lot of pharma outfits led both by those from a science background and a commercial background the styles can often be very different.
CF is a doer and that to me overrides any possible criticism that at times he may lack the detailed understanding of every comment he makes but that is a very small price to pay for everything else he brings to the table
So I take it with what your saying all the BS he’s talking your out of ORPH or you will be first thing in the morning, GL.
Compared to the population of Africa those cases are very significantly lower than here, so you are just being pedantic and his point is not necessarily invalid or unjustified.
barwickman, assuming the whole of the African continent are capable of performing accurate coronavirus testing, agree. However, this doesn't alter the fact that Cathal bends the truth to suit his spiel, his statement re Africa to support a seasonal wave theory was wrong, and his assertion that the presence of Antibodies provides immunity for upto 2 years is also unproven, so what else is he bs on?
I think the whole of Africa will be relieved at this point of time in the COVID 19 pandemic that they’ve only registered 8600 deaths, just compare the size of Africa to the UK.
Perhaps someone could share this link with Cathal before he puts his foot in it again
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-4a11d568-2716-41cf-a15e-7d15079548bc
I wish Cathal would stick to the facts rather than embellishing, quote "Why isn't Coronavirus in Africa, doesn't like sunshine and there are a lot younger skinnier people relatively healthy".
Latest worldometer figures 131,000 cases in South Africa, 63923 in Egypt, 24077 in Nigeria, 11877 in Morocco, 9257 in Sudan, 5811 Kenya, 5570 Ethiopia etc
Great guy to listen to btw, I really enjoy his interviews
He CF has always said in earlier interviews challenge study’s will start backend of the year, this ain’t a quick fix , let’s hope like he says 2nd wave won’t be so bad, if as many have said if we follow simple rules we can get through this quicker, we all need to move on, GL
Very interesting and open interview. My takeouts:
1. Challenge study start Dec (bit later than expected??
2. Covid testing of mainstream vaccines also late this year/early next (also a bit later than expected?)
3. Surprised he is so categorical .. antibodies will protect for probably 2 years... and you cannot be carrier with antibodies (dont think that's officially the line?)
4. no discussion Imutex. Perhaps interviewer fault!
5. Said Covid seasonal... again not sure that's officially so?
6. Slightly rowed back from selling ORPH? Talked about building the company also an option. I am happy with that too. Keep all options open.
Latest CF interview, i believe recorded yesterday;
