Fundamentals are great and it is no longer a minnow player. So up it goes - no complaints from me!
It’s very difficult to see where the ceiling will be for the sp, even in the short to medium term. Clearly the market sees Clipper as having exponential growth potential. The new contracts being generated by the company seems to bear this out.
I too am surprised by the strong run over the last few days (nothing to complain about!). No news but we have already gone above 760p, wow...
this usually retraces to well defined supports but last couple of weeks its stayed strong and last week was particularly high volume. i have no reason to think so other than the fact that its a desirable business to be in now, but i wouldnt be surprised if some m&a is brewing.
Knew I shouldn't have sold...... :)
every bid is different but generally its at least 15-20% or more above the prevailing sp before the play is leaked. it can be sometimes 40% if its well hidden. the sp has been moving higher but steadily, there has been no unexplained 10% jump higher. so anything happening will need to be at least a premium of 15% otherwise the board will refuse outright. as i say i know someone was sniffing last year but i dont know the details. im sure it was down to valuation. blackstone were interested in a unit of giant xpo but it fell apart due to price. and xpo has more than doubled since then.
Question is, what would be a good offer now? I think it would have to be 750p, to even stand a chance of being accepted by the big IIs, who are the ones with the final say here.
PE was definitely in touch last year when the shares were nearer 4 quid. i think it was last august. i cant say but i suspect either they offered too little or the management wanted more and rightly so. a fwd pe of 20 for 2022 is easily possible here and thats some v strong and cheap growth so i would not be surprised if someone comes along. you could say this for many of the uk listed logistics teams as while share prices have run up, earnings and forecasts are going up even faster, so in some cases the shares are cheaper than a year ago even though the share prices have risen. tomorrow wincanton reports and they will no doubt see f/c pushed higher.
SP looking strong this week. Not sure if the chatter surrounding PE interest here plays a part?
Still waiting to get back in under 6.50 ........maybe missed the boat? :)
Bit worrying that Steve Parkin has been mentioned in this 'contracts for donations' to the tory party video. Thoughts?

That’s a big order!!!...89 new trucks....hopefully sp £8.50 by Christmas

Hopefully we exceed the markets expectations further & Mannix lands a European acquisition as the article mentions.
So do I but guess not.
Thought the JD Sports announcement may have sent the price North again, but maybe that was the news that leaked last week?
@Motbuck
I don’t blame you. Anyone who has followed Clipper knows that it will probably yo-yo back into the low 600s before too long. Perhaps there is another bid rumour swirling around out there at the moment.
Too tempting for me..... sold most of my relatively small holding at 6.90 with a 60% profit within less than a year. Hope to get back in below 6.50. Seems like there is something going on , so may miss out, but decided to take the profit. GLA
also i would add look at the forecast pe, clipper has a much higher growth rate. the fwd pe for 22 is around 22/23 pre upgrades which are sure to happen.
private equity was sniffing around here. i bet they will be back. especially now that sterling lower. and yes, this is more ecommerce than wincanton, but wincanton equally fine its its segment.
Wincanton and Clipper are very different beasts. Clipper specialises in e-fulfilment, which, given the continuing rise of online retail, is very much a growing sector - hence the growing sp. That said, I think we are probably approaching the limit of Clipper’s sp growth for now, though I could see it hitting 750p next year.
I've cashed in my chips today for Clipper. Made a good profit but enough is enough and save for a takeover I think it is overpriced.
Compare the stats with Wincanton. Latter has a P/E of 17, net profit of £43.8 mill and capitalisation of £510 mill.
Clipper has P/E of 33, made profits of 16.2 mill and is capitalised at £630 mill.
Which is the better value and which is more likely to improve its shareprice?
My bets are on Wincanton.
Share price rocketed again this week on no news....... strong market this week, but a 10% increase in just over a week is still a big move. I'm sure some people make a lot of money trading this share on such big swings (not me):)
Yup read that today. I am already invested but it lays everything out clearly and makes a great case for investment.
Price rocketing again for no obvious news...... bizarre swings again!
