Scampthedog, your comments regarding the Ying and Yang between RM and CWU are very true and have been for many years.
For all it's flaws, the CWU has been the trusted voice of RM employees and over the years has striven to increase the T's&C's of postal workers. It is also the only trade union that RM will negotiate with therefore it is crucial that both sides work together.
Well we have been very busy, just constant. There was a super peak last wed and Thurs with black Friday stuff but generally been steady busy working well into the dark most days. Spent a lot of money on agency staff though as a contingency plan incase we went out on strike. They have been out delivering packets thought, although they are steadily falling by the wayside. All in all so far been more busy than last year I'd say.
Management stance is that they can't afford scotch so let them drink meths.
I know I am at great risk of being accused of stating the blindingly obvious, but any substantial increase, in the short term anyway, depends upon two things: better than expected Christmas figures and a mutually benefiting deal with its workforce. Without either -- the s.p plummets!
Regarding the CWU/worforce. This is where I, the odd exceptions being people like "mad" and "Isleworth" of course, differ from the greater majority of contributors on this board. My contention being: unless RMG take the workforce with them, and forward, on this new venture...then they, RMG, cannot possibly succeed.
I have read many comments here about how the union is muzzled, will do as they are bid, have no choice, cannot influence events, so on and so forth and etc and etc. To all that I say -- B0ll0(ks!!!
Any person who does not understand the Yin/Yang relationship between RMG and the CWU is just completely deluded. They are opposite and opposing faces of the same coin...this complex blend is intrinsic to the very flavour of Royal Mail. Get the blend right and you have a high value bottle of Scotch. Get it wrong -- and you have an undrinkable bottle of P!ss!!!
