Poppy**** - They are not attending the meeting on a shareholders behalf!
They are producing a Letter of Representation from the Nominee company that permits the benefical Owner to attend the meeting personally and cast a Vote.
If the beneficial Owner does not wish to attend the meeting ,but does wish to Vote then a Letter of Representation is not required. It is only necessary for the Nominee company to submit a proxy Vote on behalf of the beneficial Owner.
The FEE is for the production of the Letter of Representation - not the casting of the proxy Vote.

How do you explain the email I got from LSE( Jarvis investments) if there is no charge you need to look what people post before making quick replies it is copied and pasted from my email account
"Why should L S E want to charge me £20 + vat for what other brokers do for free"
each broker has a different set of charges - generally the really low cost ones for buying and selling charge you more for each and every add-on - they have t o make a living and that means getting some money off you - they can do it by upping their commission rates or charging you for extra services they provide. It's like Ryanair cp BA
I have shares with Halifax and L S E
Halifax sent me the forms in pre paid envelopes
I asked L S E (JARVIS ) for the same forms and got the enclosed reply
Good morning

Why should L S E want to charge me £20 + vat for what other brokers do for free
Completely agree, my Advisor was really helpful.
NO CHARGE with the Halifax for taking votes.
Halifax do not charge for this service. If they did it would be mentioned in their list of costs and charges and it is not. This is more misinformation being posted by those with an agenda.
I'm with the Halifax.
When I voted earlier I was told that there is no charge for them taking my vote. The Advisor set me up so that I would get any future notifications on any of my holdings through Corporate Actions so that (in relation to voting) I could submit my votes online instead of phoning up and getting in a queue... I hope that helps.
The organisation is Halifax, I didn't get charged not sure why scagmelag has been charged!!!
I have never come across a Custodian charging for either registering a proxy vote on behalf of a beneficial owner or for supplying a Letter of Representation in order that the beneficial owner can attend and Vote in person at a company meeting.
You could ask for your shares to be returned to you in paper form. That will cause you to be registered by the company registrar on the shareholder register in your own name. There will be a cost for this but well worth it has you will be able to Vote and receive Annual Reports direct from the Company.
The simple solution, however ,is to take your custom elsewhere and change brokers.
Care to name the organisation concerned so that they can be shamed across Bulletin Boards.
I sent these instructions to customercare.hsdl@halifax.co.uk
