Netflix = Stream
Cineworld = Monsoon River
So, go do the math.
IMHO £2bn claim from cineplex is too silly to me but you never know. I'm sure CINE would have consulted their legal team and thought twice before breaking the contract. I have a feeling that this would settle out of court next year or worst come a revised deal would be agreed.
The outcome from the wrangle with the canadian contract will certainly be interesting! If anyone has a copy of the contract, please share :) I won't hold my breath though haha
Please, there are like one Netflix account shared between like 15 people. With that cheap trick, the likes of Cineworld will always be the fav ground for movie productions to make their primary profits. Netflix is for a steady of incoming which will be minimal with long term payback. I got Netflix as well, paid for 2 screen and shared between my family of 5, Lol.
Hence, a big fat NO to your comment.
I remain to be convinced that anyone will make a bid for this whilst their is a breach on contract suit against it with damages potentially in excess of C$2 billion being claimed! Without seeing the contracts we will never know for sure, but prior to the virus really kicking off there was mention that the agreement was pretty watertight and even included pandemic clauses to prevent either party breaching the agreement on that basis. Just unfortunate timing that CINE agreed to play that amount just before the cinema sector collapsed - plus it needed the additional money that was being raised as part of the Cineplex deal (in addition to the transaction amount). A lot will now come down to whether there is a serious second wave this autumn, and how quickly a reliable vaccine is available.
Cineworld will get taken out ..... that was the point of the change in law to allow studios to buy cinema chains.
There s huge amount of lobbying that goes on to get these changes in law .... remember that !!
Given AMC has made a deal with Universal, it does make sense for the SECOND largest cinema operator to be approached.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Netflix bidding to cineworld or amazon who have been linked before but it looks like these takeover rumours may have some truths in it.
