Simon,

Thanks for that mate. I think that I will probably stay with Halifax, for the amount of times I trade, its hardly worth moving. Interesting to know though. Cheers.

Simon, who do you work for?

The only reason I ask is that your initial message has been spammed by you and others across the boards...hope they pay well..

Hi IP3LY,

Do iWeb charge for having a shares account?

Halifax was the only broker (at the time of me moving to them) that had no charge for an account. I'm happy with Halifax with there no charge policy. I guess it all depends on how many times you trade per year. Yes, there will be better platforms than Halifax for sure, but it comes at a price.

"NigeCo, I thought halifax was sligthly more expensive, at £11.95 a trade or so, ill take a look."

Hi Simon,

Yes. For someone like me who doesn't trade that often its worth paying more commission on a trade than paying a bill for holding my shares. I was with Nat West, they were then taken over by TD direct investing who were then taken over by Interactive Investor. Who would have charged me for my account, so I moved to Halifax. Its ideal like I say if you don't want an annual charge. Good luck in what you decide.

It really did ruin the experience - which was a real shame as it worked really well! Correct it did lose data - but for me I always screen dump and print my trades just in case situations what happened with loss of data and also for records. Lol that's true with the free to leave! Although - FYI - It seems to close the trading account when 'leave' but you can still access the account without being able to trade. I am waiting now to see if the monthly payments has actually stopped or they will the £9.99 fee even though I have closed the account. Which if they do - it'll be another rip off ploy from ii.

@NigeCo - I used Halifax before too and each trade was quite expensive against all the other companies out there. Overall, down to each individual what one you go for as depends on the experience you have or service you get.

I have tried a few trading accounts and at the moment I find iWeb an all round thumbs up - but if they change their functions or costs become too high in the future - I will just look for another - just got to be flexible and have time put aside to doing it if need be.

Hi IP3LY, yep I believe it was for the worse too. The update ruined the experience, plus they lost eveybodies trade history for all trades before 2017... they are running the company through the ground.

The only good thing about ii is they are free to leave lol...

NigeCo, I thought halifax was sligthly more expensive, at £11.95 a trade or so, ill take a look.

Thanks

Hi Simon,

I'm with Halifax share dealing. You are correct that there is no charge for holding an account weather you are an active investor or like me inactive. I've not had any problems using them, and would have no hesitation in recommending Halifax. There may be better trading platforms that come at a monthly cost. The choice is yours. GL.

Hi Simon19, I use iWeb after cancelling interactive investor due them raising their fees to a monthly payment plan which same as you dont purchase to frequently - and if you work out the monthly fee to what you paid previously at 22.50 per month for the 2 plus free trades it works out more - plus as you stated regarding the website update I believe it was for the worse and the UI was difficult and hard to navigate - esp on mobile. iWeb - I find is much more easier to use and the service is much better and executing trades is easy and it was easy to setup! Everything that ii use to be. Good luck with your decision whatever it may be.

Any of you gentlemen used X-O(by Jarvis) or iweb-sharedealing(by Halifax)?

Interactive Investor will be increasing there fees AGAIN in 2 weeks - from £22.50 a quarter to £9.99 a month - leaving ii has been on my to do list since the terible website update around 16 months back.

x-o and iweb offer a simple flat trade-only fee of £5.95 per trade and have no inactivity or monthly/yearly admin charges...

I am a medium/long term holder so I dont trade every month and dont think being billed £9.99 a month is acceptable

any suggestions let me know.
