Transaction in own shares

Thomas Cook Group plc announces that on 8 October 2008 it purchased 2,072,756 ordinary shares for cancellation. The highest price paid per share was 203.75 pence (excluding expenses) and the lowest price paid was 185.10 pence (excluding expenses).

As a result of these purchases Thomas Cook Group plc will purchase 2,320,165 ordinary shares in aggregate from Arcandor AG and KarstadtQuelle Freizeit GmbH at a price of 197.2007 pence per share, which is the average price paid for the shares reported above.
