Interim Management Statement

Guinness Peat Group plc ("GPG") today publishes its interim management statement ("IMS") covering the period from 1 January 2009 to 15 May 2009. This IMS has been prepared solely to provide additional information to shareholders to meet the requirements of the UK Listing Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

Financial Position

A market update as at 4 May 2009 was released earlier today and can be obtained from the company's website (www.gpgplc.com). This disclosed net asset backing per share at 4 May 2009 of 53.73p.

The market update also included comment on Coats' trading performance in the period under review. There has been no significant change in GPG's circumstances since 4 May 2009.

The financial information on which this statement is based has not been reviewed or reported on by GPG's auditors.
