Gemfields Plc ("Gemfields" or "the Company", Ticker "GEM") received notification on 6 May 2011 from Standard Life Investments Ltd ("Standard Life") that on 5 May 2011 Standard Life purchased 1,000,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares.

Following this transaction, and the purchase of 15,674,000 ordinary shares as notified on 6 May 2011, Standard Life has a notifiable interest in 16,674,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares, amounting to approximately 5.14% of the Company's issued share capital.
