Emerald Energy PLC12 December 2006 Emerald Energy Plc 13 December 2006 Colombia - Aureliano Well Spudded Emerald Energy Plc ("Emerald" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that theAureliano 1 exploration well has been spud. The Aureliano prospect is in theFortuna Association Contract area in the Middle Magdalena Valley in Colombia. The Aureliano 1 well is targeting a fractured limestone prospect in the same LaLuna formation, but across a fault from the Totumal field which produced 800,000barrels from three vertical wells until the field was shut-in in the mid 1990's.The well is planned to reach a measured depth of 8,600 feet and takeapproximately 35 days to drill. Emeralds' Chief Executive Officer, Angus MacAskill, said: "This is a significant step in the exploration of the Fortuna area. Theprospect, if successful, has the potential for a number of additionaldevelopment wells."
