DIRECTORS' SHAREHOLDINGS

The Company has been informed that Mr T J Bowdler, Chief Executive, exercised options over 16,523 Ordinary Shares of 10p each in the Company under the Restricted Share Scheme for Tim Bowdler on 25 November 2008 at a total cost of £1. Mr Bowdler will pay the tax and national insurance arising from this exercise directly to the Company.

As a result of the exercise, Mr S R Paterson, Mr D Cammiade, Mr P R Cooper, Mr M A Vickers, Mr A J Richardson and Ms L Cunningham potential beneficiaries under the Johnston Press plc Employee Share Trust cease to have an interest in the 16,523 Ordinary Shares. The total number of shares in which the above named are now interested in is as follows:
