United Utilities appoints Non-Executive Director

United Utilities Group PLC today (30 August) announces the appointment of Brian May as a non-executive director with effect from 1st September 2012. Brian will also become a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and the Nomination Committee.

Brian is Finance Director at Bunzl plc, a position that he has held since 2006. Prior to taking up his current post he held roles as Group Treasurer and Finance Director, Europe and Australasia within Bunzl having joined the company in 1993 as Internal Audit Manager. Prior to joining Bunzl, Brian qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.

United Utilities' Chairman, Dr John McAdam said: "Brian's appointment will strengthen the Board's financial expertise and will contribute to our plans for Board succession; we are delighted to welcome him to the Board as a non-executive director."

Brian will also be appointed as a non-executive director of United Utilities Water PLC with effect from 1st September 2012.

Nick Salmon, who joined the Audit and Risk Committee after the retirement of David Jones at this year's AGM to provide cover pending this appointment, will step down from the Audit and Risk Committee with effect from 1st September 2012.

There are no further details to disclose under paragraph 9.6.13 (2) to (6) of the Listing Rules in relation to Brian May.
