NEWCASTLE BUILDING SOCIETY MAKES BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Newcastle Building Society (NBS) has made two appointments to its main Board.

Andrew Haigh joins as an Executive Director taking up the role of Chief Operating Officer. Andrew brings 30 years' business experience and more than 20 years in the mutual sector. As the former Chief Executive of Engage Mutual Assurance, he led the organisation for over 10 years, through a period of sustained growth and innovation. Andrew gained his strong customer focus through his early career in marketing and customer service roles with British Airways, Barclays and National & Provincial Building Society.

Angela Russell, the Society's Finance Director since July 2010, has taken up the additional role of Deputy Chief Executive. Angela is a highly experienced accountant with more than 25 years' experience in finance and has worked in a variety of positions including finance, risk, audit and corporate planning.

Phil Moorhouse, NBS' Chairman, said: "The Board is delighted with these appointments. They boost our skill-set further, offer the right level of continuity we need on our Board and will help us deliver the next stages of our corporate strategy.

"I'm also particularly pleased we can make a high-level internal promotion as it emphasises the expertise we already have existing within our business."

These appointments take place with immediate effect.
