JJB Sports plc appoints John Clare as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director

Following its announcement on 24 July 2009, JJB Sports plc ("JJB" or the "Company") is pleased to confirm the appointment of John Clare CBE as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director with effect from 27 July 2009. 

John Clare CBE served as the Chief Executive Officer of DSG International Ltd. from 1994 to September 2007, having joined DSG as Marketing Director in 1986 and serving as Managing Director of Dixons Stores Group from 1988 to 1992 and Group Managing Director of DSG International plc from 1992 to 1994.

Mr Clare has served as the Senior Independent Director of Hammerson plc since 3 May 2007 and as a Non-Executive Director since 1999. Mr Clare has also served as Non-Executive Chairman of Dreams plc since 2008 and as a director of Dyson James Limited since 2007.  He also serves as Chairman of Jobcentre Plus (part of the Department of Work and Pensions). In 2005, he was awarded a CBE for services to the National Employment Panel. 

Mr Clare has joined the JJB Board and has advised that there are no other details to be disclosed in accordance with Listing Rule 9.6.13.
