AFREN PLC ANNOUNCES THE CLOSING OF$50 MILLION OF ADDITIONAL SENIOR SECURED NOTES

February 16, 2011 - Afren plc announces the closing of an additional $50 million aggregate principal amount of its 11½% Senior Secured Notes due 2016 (the "Additional Notes"). The Additional Notes were issued as a tap under the indenture dated February 3, 2011 pursuant to which $450 million of 11½% Senior Secured Notes due 2016 were previously issued.

The Additional Notes are senior secured obligations of Afren plc and are guaranteed on a senior basis by certain subsidiaries of Afren plc and on a senior subordinated basis by Afren Resources Limited. Interest is payable semi-annually.

Afren plc intends to use the proceeds of the offering for general corporate purposes.
