Could I share my experience to date re ITV?
I invested quite heavily in ITV in 2017 @circa 200p
Some of the reasons I went heavy reflects some of the posts today regarding optimism of takeover. I can not deny I was seeking a quick resolution and would of sold into it in an instant.
As time unfolded, no suiter appeared from either right or left of field. A World Cup came and went. No significant increase in SP capital appeared. Those are facts! Simple in my final analysis.
Machinations over two years have offered no clarity! I held in hope!
Remove hope from the equation, therefore I felt I had to take a judgement on fact rather than rumour, supported by charts (which are an indication not a bible for me). I watched ITV bounce off 140p several times this year and having secured recent dividends made a conscious and brave decision to sell should it hit that point again. It came close!
I sold my holding on 26th April at @138.51p at a £35k loss. Take into consideration my dividends over that period it results in a £25k loss.
That is not an easy loss to accept never mind share in a public forum, therfore an understanable question is, why would I share?
In 2009 I entered the 'markets' arguably at the bottom of the financial crisis. I bought and sold and cut my teeth in trading stocks.
One thing I recall quite vividly, in the early days, was selling at loss, based on a rationale judgement, was not a cardinal sin. It worked for me then it could work for me now,
So, look at the performance of ITV from when I sold. I did not sell at the top but boy am I grateful I sold!!!
