Im led to believe that Flow Products was reported to both MCS and RECC for falsifying the generation values. Flow claimed to generate upto 1 Kw of electrical power even though this was not possible with the current PPB2 configuration. Firstly, the working fluid inside the ORC was replaced for a safer liquid with a lot less bang for its buck. Secondly, The scroll expander was re-designed and a single wrap was removed from the orbiting scroll...You could say it was firing on 2 cylinders rather than 3. The Heat output from the primary heat exchanger was also reduced down from18kw to 14Kw. The clever people at Flow failed to mention that the electrical power generated by the scroll (approx 400 watts per hour) was actually the GROSS ELECTRICAL OUTPUT AND NOT THE NET ELECTRICAL OUTPUT FIGURE as listed in the instructions. Flow had failed to account for the parasitic losses (approx 250 watts per hour) which were required to run the boiler and the Power Module at full tilt) Flow had conveniently installed a purpose provided measuring point and attached it to the front of the boiler which recorded electrical power fed directly from the scroll and powered electronics without deducting what electrical power was being used to operate the appliance? This connection point would also be used by customers to connect their fiscal electricity meters in order to prove generation values and claim back the Feed-in-tariff. This was clearly stated in the manufacturers instructions on how and where to connect the fiscal generation meter. Jabil, Enertek, BSI, and EA Technology would all record actual generation values from this point without accounting for the deduction in parasitic losses. If somebody had actually stuck a power meter on the incoming mains supply and observed? They would of clearly witnessed a 250 watt difference in between the measuring point on the front of the boiler and the power meter fitted onto the incoming supply. Theres a Big difference in-between Gross and Net generation values. (400 watts minus 250 watts = 150 watts per hour) Make of this what you will?
