Not being an expert, I did wonder why so many satellites are required, but I guess Musk has got his sums right.
There are 5 million claimed subscribers as of the end of 24, with 10 million estimated by the end of this year.
30 minutes browsing the internet will utilise dozens of satellites as the call is passed on to the next nearest in the constellation.
I`m not sure why you are concerned with the distance from earth, the 25 m/s delay is not of any importance, and signal decay only really occurs in the troposphere, so 10kms horizontal or vertical presents the same problems.
HAP`s are an answer looking for a question, and have no real payload capability, there are challenges keeping them in the air at the correct height and in position.
I did wonder if there is surplus capacity, perhaps it is required to realise the autonomous car concept, or just available to lease?
I also have doubts that the satellites are EMP proof?
