Recently, Li Xianfeng and Zhang Huamin, researchers at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, led the scientific research team to adopt a new generation of weldable vanadium flow battery (VFB) technology integrated 8kW/80kWh and 15kW/80kWh energy storage demonstration systems. Shanyang County, Shangluo City, Shaanxi Province was successfully put into operation. The system is composed of electrolyte circulation system, battery system module, power control module and remote control system. The system design rated output power is 8kW and 15kW respectively, and the rated capacity is 80kWh. In addition, the battery system is also matched with solar photovoltaic installations as a backup power supply for important loads in the project site computer room to ensure the reliability of the power supply of the loads. After on-site testing, the battery system meets customer requirements and runs stably.
The stack of the energy storage demonstration system in this operation uses the weldable porous ion conductive membrane, weldable bipolar plate, and integrated weldable stack independently developed by the team. The new generation of technology has broken the traditional stack assembly mode, greatly improving the reliability and assembly automation of the stack. Compared with the traditional stack, the total cost of the new generation stack is reduced by 40%, thereby improving the stability and economy of the entire battery system.
The successful operation of the application demonstration project has laid a solid foundation for the engineering and industrial development of the new generation of vanadium redox flow battery technology.
