I think this news item has caused it to drop badly today together with my BHP shares that are also down, namely: SYDNEY, Aug 28 (Reuters) - The state of Western Australia on Thursday said it planned to sell government-owned assets, including part of the Port Hedland shipping terminal, for an estimated A$1 billion to A$2 billion ($1.9 billion) as its resource-heavy economy adjusts to the collapse of a decade-long mining boom.

Hi New Kid, yes this seems to be out of favour along with my holding in RIO but how far it is going to fall is the big question. it goes ex divi next week yet is reacting to the news from Australia ie that the state of Western Australia said it planned to sell government-owned assets, including part of the Port Hedland shipping terminal, for an estimated A$1 billion to A$2 billion ($1.9 billion) as its resource-heavy economy adjusts to the collapse of a decade-long mining boom. Hi Elvis, I enjoyed reading your post and after looking at ALL of the BBs of the shares that you mentioned, I appreciated your valued input even more. Personally I look for dividend income as the paramount criteria for my future investments and tend to top up selective mining shares in my existing portfolio that I have fully researched and regularly monitor rather than going for making possible huge capital gains on speculative mining shares. Interested in your comments about persons of my generation enjoying life, I work on the principle that I have been on borrowed time since I passed 3 score years and ten and that was some time ago! Have a good weekend. BTW I enjoyed the racing, great meal and wine, lovely sunshine but only one winner but since I only speculated £2 per race I didn’t lose much. My friend who took me suggested we do it again in 3 years time!

Hi Elvis, yes you summed that RNS up perfectly, at my age I think I am into this share for my lifetime for I am sitting on a huge paper loss here and although I do think this is a great company well managed and paying good dividends I decided to top up to buy more RIO overnight, I left a buy order at £32.55 and to my surprise it was executed at 8.08am whilst I was still asleep - that company is huge but generates great income twice a year and in my opinion is very undervalued. What is your favoured mining stock in the current market? Going to Newbury Racing today - haven't been Racing for 3 years so will be away all day but would be interested in knowing of your current favoured stock when I get back ATB

Goldman Sachs Strong Buy at £25.30 which was reiterated yesterday, I think they first stated that opinion on June 3rd albeit the June 3rd entry has now been updated to express their opinion for a strong sell. Was this an LSE error that Goldman Sachs asked to correct or a Goldman Sachs internal blunder - hell of a difference in the two opinions? More significantly what is it going to do to RIO SP - will it have any impact or will yesterdays strong RNS be the main influence here?

How do you view yesterday's RNS? I am still sitting on a big loss here but overall I have done well recently with my RRS, BHP and RIO holdings so cannot complain for all three went the right way after topping up those shares. I didn't top up my FRES for I'm feeling a little nervous about this holding and the RNS unfortunately was not a comfort!

Hi Hughsie and Interllght 84. My advice for what it is worth is not to try and catch a falling knife - I have made that mistake more times than I remember but hopefully have learn't my lesson. Today's drop is a combination of the trading figures and drop in gold and silver. How far it will fall nobody knows but to try and catch or anticipate the bottom could be a wrong move - wait for SP to stabalise with some substantial buying. This is a well managed Company, pays a good dividend and I believe will prove to be a rewarding investment given time. Good Luck everyone in FRES

Just logged on and am pleased about the news but amazed at what happened to the SP. Anyone got am explanation for the sharp pull back from a 2% initial rise? How do you see the SP going from this point.

I am hoping this can stay above £10 but as Hughsie pointed out the other day there may be resistance at this level following the recent dramatic rise from the years low. My mining shares are all showing upward movements from where they were a couple of weeks ago, but alas I am still recouping losses. I was surprised New Kid hasn't commented with some words of wisdom, I think he said he sold these shares the other day and just retains his freebies in it.

High Hughsie enjoyed my cuppa today. If New Kid (NKOTB I thought might mean new kid on the block) observation was right then the £16.5K the player made has evaporated overnight! If you hadn't blocked him we could have done with your input in trying to educate me about your opinion on the spike he noticed that he believes was a sell at 9.33, Driving tried to get to the root with his post but New Kid's response was to ask for others to contribute and nobody so far as. I do hope this gets through the £10 barrier soon and goes upwards and upwards. Hi New Kid, thanks for trying to explain. If this goes below 933, then what you are saying is the person will make a killing, that is assuming that was a SELL transaction and not a readjustment of the investment to associated companies or family members . FRES seems to be on the slide this morning but whether it will retrace to that level is in the lap of the Gods. FRES is a sound company, good management, debt free and generates an exceptional dividend income that makes this a long term hold for me, albeit I am losing money on FRES at the present time. These are the fundamentals that determine where I invest my hard earned capital and am willing to wait and accept that it goes up and down but the current trend IMO is upwards. If your nod/wink research criteria works then I am delighted for you, we obviously have a different view at gleaning and interpreting useful information about our investments. Are you shorting FRES at the moment then?

Sorry New Kid I still cannot get my head around it. Thanks for trying to educate me but alas it is above my head on this occasion. BTW I always thought NT was for a negotiated trade and that such trades can have no relevance to current SP when they are inter-related transfers between close relatives following a death or associated companies reorganizing investments. Anyway thanks for trying to explain which I appreciate. I still think that FRES will break £10 very soon is it your view as well?

Thanks for the url. I'm none the wiser but can see the spike you refer to ie the price is back to that before the spike was generated instantly. I personally would have taken that as a computer glitch if you had not told me otherwise. At least there are no other spikes in the graph on other days so it seems to be a rare occurrence as far as I could see.

Hi New Kid you say you just spotted a trade for shorting 200K shares at 933. Can you educate us as to where we could find such information in the future? Maybe provide the url. I still think that FRES will pass £10 very soon and this share is going in one direction only at the moment.

Yes Hughsie, I am in my eighties and have a sleep in nowadays and look at the data as I make my cuppa circa 9am. I looked at the analysis url posted today under the heading Looking Bearish. On the chart it says: Strong support on downward trend line an price has stalled here. Stop Loss above £9.35. Break above £9.35 could indicate break of the downward trendline and long entry. surely in my eyes that is contrary to @TheTradingHive's observation in his or her post today or am I misreading that info? What do you make of it? No share goes straight up or down but the trend here, supported by strong buying is upwards and when I recover my loss I will not be ditching this share for it gives me a nice annual income.

Hi Hughsie yes looking good and if this keeps rising together with RRS I will soon be eradicating my loss a lot quicker than I expected and of course we can enjoy receiving the dividends which in my opinion represents an exceptional return on my investment here. I think it will crack £10 very soon. To me this looks like solid buying on merit whereas the previous period of rapid rise you referred to was speculative hence my topping up in error then but I was not alone to add to my investment in anticipation of it being added to the ETF index.

Hi Hughsie I remember it well for I topped up at 12.60p and then the stock was not included in the ETF index as well as three other gold stocks, all because of their large controlling shareholders! This is a well run company with no debt and I have every confidence that my judgement of investing here will prove rewarding.
