There is an ambition to achieve net zero emissions in 30 years with a target of a halving emissions in 10 years.
We have got to find the stuff first but extraction and distribution will have to be carefully managed to avoid over-supply and maintain our green credentials.
For clarity and the avoidance of doubt, I am heavily invested here and intend to hold.
I believe we should be wary of the total extractable volume of gas.
If we find, for example, 30 years supply, we should be aware that, over those years, there will be pressure for gas use to diminish as alternative energy supplies increase.
Early monitisation through displacing coal and oil would be required.
There is no point in having 40 years of gas if usage degrades to zero in 30 years.
