Domestic gas prices are facing significant fluctuations as supply is tightened. At the same time, global prices are continuously rising due to conflicts in the Middle East, leading to reduced gas sales for retailers.

Gas companies are worried that prolonged supply shortages will lead to higher prices.
A representative from a gas company stated that their unit still primarily purchases gas from PV Gas Trading Company. As early as the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, the company announced a reduction in supply to its main distributor.
Normally, the company receives between 72 and 93 tons per day, but now it's only 24 to 48 tons per day. Furthermore, the company recently announced it would stop supplying its distributors starting in March. This week, the parties will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the supply situation.
Several gas companies have stated that domestic supply currently only meets about 30-40% of demand. The remainder must be imported. These companies have requested permission to refill gas cylinders into 6kg containers if supply is scarce, in order to ensure service for all customers.
If there is a severe shortage, people will switch to electric stoves. Once the market stabilizes, convincing customers to return to gas will not be easy.
Besides supply issues, gas companies also reported that world gas prices are rising daily. At the beginning of March, gas prices were forecast to increase by $24/ton, but have now surged to $54/ton. This is equivalent to an increase of nearly 20,000 VND per cylinder.
If the situation persists, prices could continue to rise by another $100/ton, equivalent to an increase of approximately 40,000 VND per 12kg cylinder.
Many organizations have reported force majeure situations.
Several gas distributors have reported receiving notifications from Vietnam Liquefied Petroleum Gas Company Limited (VT GAS). The company predicts that the supply of gas in March is likely to be unpredictable due to the complex global situation. The company advises customers to proactively plan their gas purchases and business operations.
VT GAS is committed to supplying sufficient gas in March at a level equal to the average production of the previous three months.
However, customers must receive at least 60% of the production volume between March 1st and March 20th, 2026. If this level is not met, the company will only provide an additional 40% of the average production volume for the remaining days of the month.
Earlier on March 2-3, PV Gas Trading Company sent an urgent notice to customers in the Southern region. The notice mentioned a force majeure situation related to supply.
