British biotech 4D pharma got in on the SPAC action, merging with blank check company Longevity back in October, and in anticipation of breaking through on Nasdaq, the microbiome player has recruited John Beck as CFO. Beck’s most recent CFO experience was a two-year run at Ritter Pharmaceuticals from 2018-20. Elsewhere at 4D pharma, ex-Ligand and Sequenom CFO Paul Maier has climbed on to the board as a non-executive director.

UPMC designed the Cancer Immunotherapeutics Center (CIC) to speed the most promising new immunotherapies toward large clinical trials.

A diverse team conducts early-phase trials on all aspects of immunotherapy across the spectrum of cancer.

Experts at the CIC treat solid organ tumors and lymphomas that haven't responded to standard treatment. We leverage UPMC Hillman Cancer Center's science to launch researcher-lead clinical trials.

Through this teamwork, we offer access to treatments never available before and can bring customized care to more people.

At present, numerous trials are exploring how to manipulate the gut microbiota in an effort to improve clinical outcomes. Several methods are currently being investigated, including the use of prebiotics, probiotics, fecal microbiota transplantation, or capsules loaded with bacteria.

One clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT03934827) is actively recruiting multiple solid tumors to investigate a novel biotherapeutic, MRx0518, which is composed of a proprietary strain of bacterium. Patients who have been diagnosed with one of many solid tumors and are amenable to surgical resection are eligible for this study.
