There seems to be someone buying in 10k chunks, in addition to the 50k. With results due next week - and Brexit discussions moving fast, the GBP strengthens and this looks a bargain. Shorts to cover some ... Post results, will we see a bid?

I’m a firm Long also. A lot of positive news since the lows, with no meaningful change in price. So far...

The John Burford chart analysis is worth reviewing - his view being that 156 is the major Low and we are now in a bull market. Certainly plenty of space on the chart to regain ground. Let’s see.

More of the sideways movement. Maintain risk reward attractive at these levels.

Maybe, but they are cheap - and with the pound also quite so cheap and funds picking up 8%, it has to be takeover target! If not Standard, there will be others circling.

Even if rumour comes to nothing, £ is up another 2% today on the dollar. Big move. Any certainty that a Brexit deal gets agreed, shorters will start to close/close. There seems to be a willingness to do one from all sides. This has been missing for months!

That would be too good ... I picked up another 2000 just in case. Limited downside here.

£ now 2% up on USD. Big swing there!

£ is up 1.7% vs USD in the futures market further to the positive Uk /Irish talks. Reflects reduced risk. Banks to benefit. If we get a deal, major risk factor off the table for Metro investors. Equity should kick on here.

Some positive Brexit news. Should impact this. Sterling higher. Think it breaks out now ... (don’t hold me to it!)

Plus governance concerns (something that is being addressed).

I’m also interested in a rational argument for being a bear - at this price point.

I think of:
- No deal brexit (a further extension seems likely if deal not done)
- Deposit outflows (July and August showed the opposite) - and potential reputational issues that can create this. Eg an FCA fine (Then I think about all the fines levied on other banks and the positive customer feedback at Metro)
- Mrel ( dealt with at high cost - higher than you’d want, but risk is removed for now and a refinance should be possible in due course)

I don’t follow the buys/sells too closely, but like to review the delayed trades. £193K through at 207 at close. Assume a buy given narrow range today.

It doesn't really matter what i think or anyone else here frankly. I think that this is an attractive valuation, hence my investment - in profit circa 10% at these levels - and will stick with it for the foreseeable unless anything fundamental changes.

No. Reckon that if they could close today at this price, they would gladly take it - but buying back over 10% of the company puts a big old squeeze on the free float.

Short interest at over 10% looks wrong to me. This is not ladden with debt! It is not going bust! Bond was well oversubscribed - as was the equity raised at over double price in the summer. If those shorts start to close, will spike.

I hold my full quota still. Anything possitive to come out of Brexit, any further institutional buying will set this off. Could it drop back further - Yes. A hard Brexit would not be positive. But Risk v Reward has to be weighted to the upside at £380 M odd market Cap. Not a lot has changed since the 500p raising in the summer. Debt raising may be a bit more expensive. Price at 0.28 Book Value!!! I think that a deal wil be done last minute with the EU mob - and i think this will get a takeover bid in the next month.

I think that a lot of the negativity prices into the share price here. As they say in the podcast, this company is not going bust. It trades at 0.28 book value.... Ignore the noise and focus on the facts! For me, that makes it a hold. I’m happy with my position - and will simply hold with a view to a better price. I expect an FCA fine. Results should be Ok. Price has started to stabilise.
