Donald Trump on Saturday touted "big progress being made" after a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jingping, in talks to stave off escalation in the US-China trade war.
"Just had a long and very good call with President Xi of China. Deal is moving along very well,"Â Trump said in a tweet.
"If made, it will be very comprehensive, covering all subjects, areas and points of dispute. Big progress being made! Deal is moving along,"Â he added.
Earlier this month, Trump and Xi agreed on a 90-day "ceasefire" to give the teams time to negotiate a more permanent settlement.
As part of the truce, Trump pledged that on January 1, he would leave the recently increased tariffs on USD200 billion worth of Chinese products at 10% and not raise the rate to 25%, as he had threatened.
China has imposed tariffs on USD110 billion worth of US imports, including soybeans, aircraft and cars in retaliation.
