I would think that shares in issue would be below 69 Billion after the day is complete

after all the vast majority of share purchases (by rules) are not made by a share buyback programme

I don't think a share buyback programme can hold back a flood of selling pressure - I would have thought it more a case of sellers getting to a limit of what they are prepared to let their shares go for on a particular day.
Atm sellers are not prepared to go much below 42p.

the next thing of any consequence to Lloyds is on the 27th July - news from which would unlikely drop the share price to 34p.

btw - I would be quite happy with 34p on unchanged fundamentals - I would 100% be purchasing
