The democratic vote gave him a year before he could be challenged again.

Maybe everyone who passed a driving test before July 1996, should now have to do a theory test in order to keep their driving licence.

Maybe DC could have changed the rule regarding the 2016 referendum afterwards, to make a 2 thirds majority as a minimum requirement to take the UK out of the EU.

As I said above the leader makes a difference to the electorate when voting.
The party chooses the leader by laid out rules - so is in getting rid of the leader.
Unfortunately the rule that was followed giving the pm at least an extra year via a democratic vote is being ripped up with a new rule overriding a democratic vote and what that vote meant.

I don't think he should resign - He got voted in by the people of the UK with a landslide victory. He then won a confidence vote.
Another confidence vote should have been a minimum 12 months later.
Any change in rule should have come into effect after that 12 month period.
Doesn't make for stable government when a PM's leadership can be challenged
every week.

There should not be a leadership contest - Boris won a vote recently and by the rules should have been supported for a minimum of another year. If they want to change the rules, that is fine, but not to retrospectively use any new rule.
I cannot abide it that a reversal of democratic vote is being attempted or will succeed. If Boris goes because of a change in rule and used retrospectively, I will not be voting for the party at the next election, as I didn't at the last election as they had failed to take the UK out of the EU.

As I said if those parties formed a coalition, there would be pressure to look at going back into the EU single market and customs union.
A referendum is not required - it would be pointless anyway, as they would simply keep having them until they got the 'right' result.

No, a referendum is optional . We did not have a referendum to join the EU (created from maastricht and lisbon treaties.)

The Sir 'peoples vote' Starmers party and the LibUNdems appear to some to be in an unwritten/unspoken (publicly)pact , demonstrated recently with tactical voting in the recent by-election.
The 2 parties are led on one hand by someone who didn't like the result of the referendum and wanted another vote, and the other who wanted to ignore the result altogether.
It would not be surprising if they formed a coalition government that they would take the UK back into the single market and customs union - with or without a say so from the UK voters. Highly unlikely to be in a manifesto though.

Yes i know - I was illustrating the impact on mortgage rates going from 0.1 to 1.25% base rates on mortgage holders - I think Lloyds 5 yr fix is similar.
With a 5% base rate, some may struggle, especially if initially stretching themselves on an interest only.

Nationwide 5 year fix was 0.99% about 9 months ago - now at 3.4%
