As always, it's difficult to contain our excitement when writing about a UK Retail Bank. The absolute thrill generated, running analysis on a share with a trading range of just 4p during the last few months, can only compare with watching a tree grow. Actually, this is probably a reasonable comparison. We were going to use "watching paint dry", "a kettle boiling", or "grass growing" but quickly realised every simile actually moves faster than Lloyds Banking Group (LLOY). On the other hand, trees don't do fast unless they are falling and again, this tends to suit Lloyds Bank.

Asperger1 I'm puzzled if lloyds didn't introduce a buyback and pay higher divi we would all be happy on the 29th we would get a higher payment in the pocket. After all that's why we invest hear. Lloyds investors are getting no growth with the S/P so we hold for divi let's make it a good one

Addressing a packed meeting in Edinburgh he acknowledged the costly behaviour of the bank in the past, including the billions paid out in mis-sold payment protection insurance and the criminal activities in Berkshire. “We don’t always get everything right. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes,” he said. Regardng the scandal in the Reading branch of HBOS which led to convictions, he said: “I am glad to say following these convictions 62 people have been made offers.” He continued to speak to a cry of “You are a liar!” followed by applause from the audience. Lord Blackwell said: “We have accepted the need to make amends. We will continue to work with the police.” On the bank’s trading performance he said it was a matter of “immense pride” that the bank had been restored to financial health. He said the bank was always achieving targets for serving small firms. “We have consistently maintained a record of granting loan applications to nine out of ten small businesses.” He said this was against an overall lending decline of 18%. Seven out of ten businesses referred for help are restored to health, he said. Chief executive Antonio Horta-Osorio also accepted the need to learn from mistakes. He added: “We are continuing to build an organisation and a culture that consistently does the right thing for our customers.” On trading performance he said: “It was a landmark year with the group back in private ownership. We have come a long way together..to transform Lloyds into a simple, low-risk bank.” He said the branch network remained the biggest in the UK but would be ‘refocused’ around customer needs. He pledged the biggest ever investment in staff training for the digital age.

Antonio Horta-Osorio, the chief executive of Lloyds Bank, is facing a potential shareholder revolt next Thursday over his multi-million pound pay packet for 2017. Institution Shareholder Services (ISS), the world's biggest investor advisory group, has recommended a vote against Lloyds' remuneration report at the lender's annual general meeting on 24 May. Lloyds' bonus framework was labelled "unduly complex" and ISS has "concerns [over]... the alignment of pay and relative performance" – Horta-Osorio's remuneration was more than 100 times that of the average Lloyds employee.
