I've tried, and tried, and tried, not to contribute to the drivel that some deluded people on here since NTC had an attack of faux conscience and (claimed to have?) exited this share. Bandwagons are popular these days! But I'm weak willed like everyone else.
The fact is that human survival instinct is extremely strong, perhaps stronger than the maternal instinct. That leads it to consider/do terribly immoral things in that cause. Inter-village raids took place long before larger empires existed, jeez, even neighbours fall out over their garden square inches. Thus, no empire was ever created without terrible atrocities being perpetrated.
Problem today and always will be is that most of us believe we're better that everyone else because some crooked, twisted people (warlords/politicians) use division techniques on us the, largely uneducated, to their own ends/survival. They are truly evil because we have supermarkets etc now and are living easier lives.
How many of us have watched an appeal on TV showing children suffering and instead of picking up the phone and donating, switched channels or scoffed another biscuit?
Whom doesn't own a t-shirt made in a sweatshop and doesn't give it a second thought. We're all hypocrites but practised at directing our ire at someone else.
We can't undo what our forbears did but we can seek to argue against not repeating it, whatever the scale. Neither should we seek reparation from the present for the sins of their forbears. That implies dependency and suggests they wouldn't have advanced on their own volition in the first place.
Lets face it, mankind is the most disgusting of animals but we can only seek to influence others by our own example.
I suggest, to avoid those that irk you with their constant derision of anothers' posts, that you spend the tiny amount of time involved in logging in to LSE at the start of your session and avail yourself of the filter button, after reading enough of their posts to make an assessment of their twisted mindset/d**k waving, of course.
As for being 6'4" and 18st., oh, you win the argument then!
I rest my case.
