RE: Has the fire gone out17 Mar 2026 21:52
I have a quite balanced opinion on all of this. DB was lucky to buy Condor, but at the same time MC was lucky to sell it. It was a great deal for both parties and if it hadn't happened then both parties were on to a looser. MC would have sold Condor to someone else in the end, but probably at a lesser price for shareholders, and DB would have been doing fine for a while until the mine ran out and the market reflected that in its share price about 6 months later.
However I do not believe that DB and the board are in any way fools and the Dupax situation although unfortunate, is just the way that things can go without good public relations and local engagement. NIMBY's aren't just a product of the UK.
I am to a larger extent comforted by a thought, although just my opinion, that this scenario has been taken into consideration when things started to go downhill at the very least. Fortunately for all of us we still have one large basket to put all our eggs in to stem off any imminent loss, but two baskets would of course have been better.
The second basket needs to come soon, because we have all been lucky from a long term company point of view.
