If you think BCN has proved the case that raising money from the capital markets is easy (my point), you are seriously deluded.
I held that share from December 2014 and am intimately aware of the difficulties involved and the appalling mess that the CEO has made of it. As for the sp, I remind you that it was at 150p in January last year and the CEO decided against raising cash at that point because he thought the market undervalued the business.
I can only hope NM is not going to make the same mistake.

I think you'll also find it is down by over 50% from the price it held for nearly 4 years.

The SXX announcement this morning should act as a warning about just how tricky it is to raise money for large new projects (BCN is another contemporary example)
The capital markets are hugely volatile and unpredictable and I for one, would prefer not to have to rely upon them.

Her response was that the documentation is still being worked on and an announcement will be made in due course.

Monte, you are absolutely right. There's no way on gods earth that BHP will be content with a minority shareholding. Put simply, it is not the way their business operates. Their current shareholding was a foot in the door and at some stage they will barge through that door like a policeman during a drugs bust.

If you look at their most recent announcements, it's patently obvious they have put themselves up for sale. In my opinion, we'll see some action in this respect after the summer, particularly bearing in the lapsing of the Newcrest lock-out.
