UPDATE 1-BP plans to restart Whiting CDU over weekend -sources

HOUSTON, Aug 2 (Reuters) - BP Plc plans to restartthe smallest crude distillation unit at its 405,000 barrel perday (bpd) Whiting, Indiana, refinery over the weekend, sourcesfamiliar with operations at the refinery said on Friday.

Energy industry intelligence service Genscape said the unitwas seen heating up to operational temperatures, indicatingpreparations are under way for the restart.

A BP spokesman declined to discuss operations at the Whitingrefinery.

BP began the overhaul of the CDU, one of three at therefinery, about three weeks ago.

The largest crude unit and another smaller crude unitcontinued to operate while the smallest CDU was shut. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Nick Zieminski and DavidGregorio)
