(Alliance News) - Unite Group PLC on Thursday announced a number of board changes due to succession planning, appointing two new directors and one departure.

Steve Smith, currently vice-chancellor & chief executive of the University of Exeter, will join Unite on April 1, 2020. He will be leaving the university in August next year. Smith chaired UCAS between 2012 and 2019.

Shirley Pearce, who "has held chair, senior executive and non-executive roles at board level in higher education, health and policing", is to join the student housing company on November 1.

Non-Executive Director Tim Wilson, meanwhile, will leave Unite at the end of 2019 after nine years.
