Tuesday preview: ZEW index, InterContinental Hotels Group in focus

(Sharecast News) - It will be a relatively light day on the economic side of things on Tuesday.


That said, the most important release will be the ZEW institutes closely-followed gauge of investor confidence for Germany in August.

On home shores, overnight BRC will publish retail sales figures for July.

Stateside, investors will be perusing the NFIB's small business optimism index for July.

Several government debt sales are also scheduled to take place on either side of the Pond, including an auction of 10-year Gilts.

For InterContinental Hotels Group's first half, UBS analyst Bilal Aziz has penciled-in a 43% year-on-year decline in revenues per available room, on the back of a 36% drop in the second quarter.

Earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation meanwhile were expected to print at approximately $160.0m.

"Given the strong market data in the US and China we expect IHG to suggest a strong exit rate from July which could see some upside risks to consensus for the full year," Aziz added.

The analyst also expected investor sentiment to be driven by the pipeline, which he expected to be broadly flat.
