TOP NEWS: Unilever Promotes Andersen As Dekkers Steps Down As Chair

Wed, 13th Nov 2019 08:14

(Alliance News) - Consumer goods giant Unilever PLC on Wednesday announced that Marijn Dekkers was stepping down as board chair with immediate effect.

Anglo-Dutch Unilever owns a vast range of brands, including PG Tips tea, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Hellmann's mayonnaise, Dove soap, and Vaseline.

Dekkers has been chair of Anglo-Dutch Unilever since April 2016. He is standing down to focus on his investment and advisory firm Novalis LifeSciences, though will continue as a non-executive director on the Unilever board.

Stepping up to replace him is Nils Andersen, currently a non-executive director. He has been on the Unilever board since April 2015. He is a previous chief executive of Danish brewer Carlsberg AS and shipping firm AP Moller-Maersk AS, and currently serves on the board of oil major BP PLC as a non-executive director, though will be leaving that role in March next year.

Dekkers commented: "It has been a huge honour to serve as chair of Unilever and I am very proud of the work we continue to do as a truly purpose-driven company.

"My decision to step down has been a difficult one to make but I look forward to seeing Unilever go from strength to strength under Nils as chair."

Unilever shares were 0.1% higher on Wednesday at a price of 4,602.00 pence each in London.
