Chip designer Imagination Technologies has signed an agreement with Texas Instruments for the electronics group to use Imagination's graphics technology in its smartphones and other mobile devices.Texas will deploy Imagination's POWERVR SGX Series5XT Graphics Processing Unit technology in its Open Multimedia Application Platform (OMAP) system on chip designs.'This collaboration will define a new zenith of graphics performance for mobile platforms which operate at extremely low power,' said Imagination.It says its POWERVR technology helps to make applications more user friendly, speeds up browsers and makes games more realistic.'We are delighted to confirm that we have extended our long-standing relationship with TI. Our core technology continues to be vital to the significant and growing success of TI's OMAP processors, an industry leading mobile and embedded SoC platform,' said Imagination chief executive Hossein Yassaie. 'This agreement will help Imagination deliver its latest outstanding POWERVR graphics technologies into the hands of device manufacturers, developers and consumers for years to come.'Remi El-Ouazzane, general manager of Texas Instruments' OMAP division said: 'The increasing quantity and sophistication of mobile device applications puts challenging burdens on the industry to enable the superior graphics capabilities with the necessary low power consumption.
