Dialight gained on news that two major North American metering companies have ordered more than 100,000 combined units of its PowerPulse 200-amp disconnect/reconnect load switch with sales totalling almost $3m. This order is in support of the United States Advanced Meter Infrastructure Initiative to introduce 'smart' metering for the 'smart grid'. The group said shipments are expected to be completed in the second half of this year and are only the start of the conversion of more than 100 million domestic electricity meters in the United States.Alphameric posted a first half pre-tax profit helped by bumper demand for its TurfTV joint venture and better results from Alphameric Solutions, but the bookmaker technology group's shares are still lower.For the six months ended 31 May 2009 profit on ordinary activities before tax was £4.1m compared with a pre-tax loss of £3m the year before. Sales increased 17% to £19.9m. The group currently has no debt.
