IAG's Willie Walsh to stand down as CEO

Thu, 09th Jan 2020 08:34

(Sharecast News) - International Airlines Group chief executive would be quitting his role in March, the British Airways owner said on Thursday.
Walsh, who took over as chief executive back in 2011, will stand down from the role and IAG's board on 26 March and will retire from the group all together on 30 June.

He will be succeeded by Iberia chief executive Luis Gallego, who started his career in the airline industry in 1997 with Air Nostrum.

Walsh said: "It has been a privilege to have been instrumental in the creation and development of IAG. I have had the pleasure of working with many exceptional people over the past 15 years at British Airways and at IAG.

"Luis has been a core member of the team and has shown true leadership over the years and I have no doubt he will be a great CEO of IAG".

IAG said Gallego's successor at Iberia would be announced "in due course".

As of 0835 GMT, IAG shares were up 1.39% at 627p.
