(Sharecast News) - Intellectual property investor Hipgnosis Songs Fund has bought the music catalogue of Grammy-winning rapper, producer, composer and songwriter Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins.
Hipgnosis said Jerkins' songs were not only successful but also of "cultural importance", having co-written or produced songs and albums for the likes of Mary J Blige, Brandy, Destiny's Child, Beyonce, Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and the Spice Girls.
The FTSE 250-listed outfit acquired 100% of Jerkins' writers share on his early works and 100% of his writer's share and publishing interest in his later works, which in total make up 982 songs.
Hipgnosis founder Merck Mercuriadis said: "If you are talking songs of cultural importance you only need to say 'Darkchild' and everyone in the world knows you are talking about the very best of the very best.
"Rodney has created magic every step of the way in his magical career and we owe him a debt of gratitude for making the airwaves such a wonderful place over the last 25 years."
As of 0950 BST, Hipgnosis shares were up 0.85% at 118.50p.
