African Barrick Gold led the risers on the news it has appointed a new Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Wray, who originally joined the company as Head of Corporate Development and Investor Relations in 2010. He will retain his existing responsibilities in addition to those of his new role. Jaco Maritz, who assumed the role of Acting Chief Financial Officer earlier this year, will revert to his original position of Vice President of Finance. On the top tier, mining stocks were the biggest risers as precious metal prices jumped. Making the strongest gains were Polymetal, Lonmin, and Hochschild. Ocado extended yesterday's gains, driven mainly by positive chat from various analysts and investors. Meanwhile, engineering firm Smiths Group fell one day after it announced an increase in its full-year dividend by 4% and said it was returning £118m to shareholders by way of a special dividend as annual results came in slightly ahead of analysts' estimates.FTSE 250 - RisersAfrican Barrick Gold (ABG) 157.80p +16.20%Polymetal International (POLY) 722.00p +10.40%Ashmore Group (ASHM) 408.30p +6.91%Ocado Group (OCDO) 427.20p +5.93%Lonmin (LMI) 347.30p +5.15%JPMorgan Indian Inv Trust (JII) 330.30p +4.20%Fenner (FENR) 414.90p +3.75%Hochschild Mining (HOC) 213.80p +3.59%Jupiter Fund Management (JUP) 382.20p +3.52%Genesis Emerging Markets Fund Ltd.
