FTSE 100 movers: SABMiller jumps on takeover speculation

SABMiller jumped on the back of speculation that fellow drinks giant Anheuser-Busch Inbev was lining up financing for a possible £75bn bid. At current prices, SABMiller is valued at around £61.5bn.The rumours come after Dutch brewer Heineken turned down an approach from SABMiller. The Heineken family, which owns around half of the company, said that it wants to "preserve the heritage and identity of Heineken as an independent company". According to analysts at Numis Securities, who upgraded SABMiller from 'add' to 'buy' on Monday, the company's next M&A move could be a possible increase to its offer for Heineken, an approach for Danish brewer Carlsberg, or a bid for Castel's African beer operations.Sector peer Diageo was also a strong riser.TUI Travel was higher after the group announced the terms of its all-share merger with holding company TUI AG.Meanwhile, oil and gas stocks were weighing heavily at the other end of the index as crude prices declined for a second day on the back of the weak Chinese data.
