BP and Marks & Spencer extend convenience store agreement to 2030

Fri, 14th Jan 2022 14:33

(Alliance News) - Oil company BP PLC and retailer Marks & Spencer Group PLC said Friday they have extended their agreement for convenience stores at petrol stations for another eight years.

The deal will see the partners' 16-year collaboration continue until at least 2030, having first teamed up in 2005.

Under the agreement, M&S Food stores have been opened at almost 300 BP-operated forecourts in Britain. The pair said that in the time they have worked together, customers have bought 13 million bunches of flowers, 25 million bottles of ‎wine, and 14 million packets of Percy pigs.

They noted that just under half of all petrol station transactions now are retail only and don't involve fuel. "Of course, our sites provide advanced fuels, but our customers also want high-quality healthy food ‎options, for now and for later," said Alex Jensen, BP senior vice president for mobility & convenience, ‎Europe & Southern Africa.

During lockdown, customers increased their purchased from BP forecourt stores by 20%, BP said, as they topped-up grocery purchases at convenience stores.

No financial details of the agreement were released.

BP shares were up 0.6% at 386.05 pence on Friday afternoon in London, while M&S shares were down 3.4% at 225.05p.
