LONDON (Dow Jones)--BP PLC (BP) said Monday the volume of oil recovered from the leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico on July 4 decreased slightly to 24,955 barrels, compared with 25,298 barrels on July 3. Between noon and midnight on July 4, 8,410 barrels of oil were captured and stored aboard the Discoverer Enterprise vessel using a cap on the well head, BP said. Another 4,065 barrels of oil was captured and burned off aboard the Q4000 vessel, it said. A total of 28.8 million cubic feet of natural gas from the well was burned off, BP said. In total, 632,410 barrels of oil have been captured from the well since it began leaking in late April, BP said. A much larger volume of oil has leaked into the Gulf of Mexico, damaging beaches and wetlands.
