Barclays ex pay chief clashed with board over Diamond bonus

LONDON, Jan 30 (Reuters) - The former head of remunerationat British bank Barclays said she clashed with theboard over the annual bonus of former boss Bob Diamond and saidhe was reluctant to accept that pay packages were high at thebank.

Alison Carnwath, who quit in July citing personal reasons ata time of turmoil following the bank's fine for rigging Liborinterest rates, said on Wednesday she thought Diamond shouldn'thave got a bonus for 2011 because the bank's returns were weak.

"Barclays were demanding too much patience from theirshareholders and were insufficiently sensitive to the politicaland economic environment and the hostile attitude to banksgenerally," Carnwath said in a written submission beforeappearing before UK lawmakers.
