Aurrigo inks deal with British Airways parent IAG for aviation tech

Tue, 03rd Oct 2023 10:55

(Alliance News) - Aurrigo International PLC on Tuesday said that it has signed a formal partnership agreement with British Airways parent International Consolidated Airlines Group SA for the deployment and demonstration of Aurrigo's autonomous aviation solutions within the UK.

The Coventry, England-based company provides autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technology to the aviation, ground handling and cargo industries.

The partnership is expected to follow a similar phasing to Aurrigo's ongoing agreement with Changi Airport Group in Singapore.

An evaluation and simulation phase will begin in October, running for four months before being followed by a demonstration phase and initial deployment.

Aurrigo said it expects that this will then lead to the deployment of a small fleet in the first half of 2025, involving the Auto-DollyTug baggage vehicle, the Auto-Cargo air-freight vehicle and Aurrigo's Auto-Sim aviation operations simulation software.

The first project and deployment of Aurrigo's vehicles under the trial programme will be valued at GBP250,000. Additionally, the companies will work together to explore further opportunities to integrate Aurrigo's autonomous solutions.

"This partnership with one of the world's largest airline groups is a great endorsement of the capabilities of our technology and the potential of automation to improve efficiencies and solve the challenges facing modern aviation," said Chief Executive Officer David Keene.

Aurrigo shares were trading 9.2% higher at 161.00 pence each in London on Tuesday morning, while IAG shares were 0.1% lower at 148.05p each.
