Advanced Oncotherapy Completes Testing Of Coupled Cavity Linac Modules

Mon, 16th Nov 2015 08:51

LONDON (Alliance News) - Advanced Oncotherapy PLC Monday said that testing of two coupled cavity linac modules, part of its LIGHT proton therapy system, has been completed.

LIGHT stands for Linac for Image Guided Hadron Therapy. The system is based around technology Advanced Oncotherapy acquired in 2013 with ADAM, a spin-off company from the European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, in Geneva.

The finished LIGHT system will incorporate 15 of the coupled cavity linac modules in total.

"The successful conclusion of the CCL tests gives us confidence that the modules will work under the required conditions to deliver the high energy protons that we need to treat patients effectively. We have tested them on maximum power with no complications, and this is another important milestone in delivering our first LIGHT machine," said Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Pandya in a statement.

Shares in Advanced Oncontherapy were up 1.2% at 6.20 pence Monday morning.
